Devotional Thought – Life In A Look

Devotional Thought – Life In A Look

“Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:22

What a glorious gaze! The Lord says to all of the earth, “Look to Me, and be saved.” This verse tells me that there is life in a look when we look to “the Life.” He tells me that I am to look upon Him until I am impressed with His image. I am to look upon Him until His will becomes mine. I am to look upon Him until my weakness is overcome by His strength and He does with me as He pleases for His purposes. I am to look upon Him until His thoughts become my thoughts, and His ways become mine.  All of this is difficult, impossible even, before looking to Him, but easy once I have gazed on His glory.

You see, once I look upon Him I no longer have power over myself. His Divine life goes through me like a mighty rushing wind. I am made a new creation in Him. I will beat with a new heart, desire with a new will, see with a new eye and speak with a new tongue. I will be like Him when I have looked to Him as Isaiah says.

When I look to Jesus I am transfigured into His image and from glory to glory. He’s satisfies my desires and longings and will become the desire and object of my heart. He eclipses the moon and sun, extinguish the stars, just by the power of His person.

I am told that some focus on another object in order to take their mind off of their pain, but here I’m told that gazing on God can remove even the sting of death itself. So, then, let my eyes be fixed on Him and the ancient wounds from the serpent will be remembered no more. My pain will cease because I will cease to be mine. My life will only be found in Him.

This is life in a look. But, don’t misunderstand. This is no mere, normal, natural gaze, for no natural man can look upon Him and live. So, let your old heart gaze upon Him and die! Let your heart fade and fall to the ground before His great glory, and in its place a new heart will rise up that finds life only in Him.
