“By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” Hebrews 11:5

Here is what we discover and can apply from the life of Enoch:

1. An ordinary life can become an extraordinary life.

Genesis 5:21 us “Enoch lived 65 years and begot Methuselah.” It is interesting that his record begins just like the six other names listed before him in this chapter. “Enoch lived 65 years and he begot Methuselah,” but after he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years. When this baby was born it marked a turning point in Enoch’s life and changed him forever.

2. A living faith is an undying faith

Here is one of the most classic statements in Scripture, “Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.” Enoch walked by faith and he ‘was not’ by faith. Instead of entering a tomb, he experience a ‘translation!’ God did something new, something that He had never done before but, definitely will do again at the rapture of the Church. He reached down and took a man, body and all, straight into Heaven. Enoch went to Heaven without having to die.

3. Out of sight doesn’t mean out of mind.

Hebrews 11:5 says, “By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death,” and was not found, because God had taken him.”

In other words, people missed him and they went looking for him. God reached down and grabbed Enoch and all of a sudden they realized the worth of a man who knew how to walk with God. Enoch walked with God and God took him, and all of a sudden there was a tremendous sense of loss that swept throughout his home, his community, where he worked and where he worshipped. They went to look for him, but they couldn’t find him, because God had taken him.

4. If you please God it doesn’t matter who you displease

Hebrews 11:5, “for before he was taken he had this testimony that he pleased God.” Enoch was pleased to walk with God and his walk was pleasing to God. As a result, Enoch wasn’t just missed by those around him, he was marked by those around him.

How can we walk wise? Hebrews 11:6 answers our question, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarded of those who diligently seek Him.”
