26 Mar Sunday Preview – “The Sacrifice of the Savior”
This coming Sunday marks one of the greatest days on the Christian calendar – Palm Sunday. It is a great day in so many ways. It marks our Lord’s entry into Jerusalem, and the beginning of the last week of His earthly life. It is a day that many in more liturgical traditions will celebrate with their rituals and it is a day that those of us who are “low church” will celebrate with ours. Either way, it is a time to remember that Jesus entered Jerusalem fully aware of what awaited Him.
What a difference a week makes. Soon the very people who had shouted “Hosanna!” would cry “Crucify Him!” Fickleness is not just an ancient ailment, it still haunts the human soul today. We sing and shout and praise Him when things are good and are prone to quickly turn on Him when things aren’t – but this isn’t a devotional.
I’m excited about what the Lord has in store for the ministry of Temple Baptist Church this weekend. This is the fifth year that our Worship Ministry will present “The Crucified Lamb, The Risen Lord.” If you have never experienced this presentation, it is a powerful portrayal of the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus. It has been used to bring many, many people to Jesus over the years, and we are fervently praying as a staff and leadership that this year will see even more impacted by this dramatic musical presentation.
I will be taking a break from my series of studies through the book of Proverbs (“Letters from Dad”) the next two Sundays to pay special attention to the death and resurrection of Jesus. This Sunday I will be preaching a message from Hebrews 9 entitled, “The Sacrifice of the Savior.” In this message I will answer the question of “Why did Jesus die on the cross?” This message will present some aspects of His sacrificial death that many will likely have never heard before. I’m praying that this message will encourage the believer as he realizes the great sacrifice Jesus provided as well as speak very boldly to the unbeliever who has never received the full and final pardon of sin that Jesus provided through His death.
Make sure to bring your lost and unchurched friends to both the presentation of “The Crucified Lamb, The Risen Lord” and to one of the services Sunday morning. Pray that the Lord will use these powerful presentations of the gospel to impact their life for eternity.
I look forward to seeing you and your family at Temple this weekend. It’s going to be great!
HIS.
