31 May Review, Reflect, Relax (Sunday, May 30, 2010)
I hope you’ve enjoyed your day of worship and fellowship with family and friends. I can honestly say that it’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a holiday weekend more than this one. As I sit here at home this evening there is so much to be thankful for – and I am truly thankful.
This morning, like all Sunday morning’s began early as I spent some time in prayer and preparation for this morning’s message. As we drove to church for sound check and PT practice there was a lot of fog in Simpsonville – or what LK likes to call “clouds on the ground.”
First service was a pleasant and welcome surprise, as folks started showing up early for worship. I can honestly say that for the first holiday weekend of the summer season, the attendance and spirit of the first service was a real encouragement. LT Scott Odom was home for the weekend from Washington and did a wonderful job presenting part of this morning’s Memorial Day service. It was also great to have MSG Steve Pearson home on leave for the weekend. (What a blessing to see, and thank, these two fine young men as they presented the colors on such a special weekend.)
Second service began with celebrating the ordinance of baptism as two more young people made their public profession of faith in Jesus. I was amazed at the number of guests that we had this morning. (They were everywhere!) I know that many of them were there for the baptisms, but I also know that many others were there for the first time, not knowing anybody. I guess word of mouth is continuing to spread about what the Lord is doing at Temple.
All in all today was a real encouragement to this pastor. Good attendance on a day when many churches struggle and a receptive spirit is always welcome, and a real blessing today. For all of those who were so faithful to be in church and engaged in worship this morning – thank you. You were not just a blessing to this pastor, but to all of those around you as well.
This afternoon was spent cooking out and spending time with friends, a nap, and them some time at the pool. (LK was brave enough to get into the pool with just one of those floating “noodle” things. She’s getting so big.)
Well, it’s been a long, good day. It started early, went great, and is turning out to be a beautiful evening out here on the back porch. I hope your day has gone just was well. I pray that you have a great Memorial Day and get to spend it with those you love the most.
It’s going to be a great summer showing the love of Jesus in practical ways and serving our community in His name. Make sure to keep up with all of the different opportunities that will be available to you and your family. Have a great week and keep your eyes open for those “divine appointments” that the Lord brings your way.
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.” 1 Peter 3:15
HIS.
