21 Jun Review, Reflect, Relax (Sunday, June 20, 2010)
This has been a great Father’s Day. This morning my kids woke me up with shouts of “Happy Father’s Day!” and I’ve received cards with the prettiest scribblings and stickers you’ve ever seen. I’ve been treated to a homemade chocolate cake with TONS of sprinkles that LK thought would taste good and look even better, and Jack gave me some screwdrivers for my tool box. It’s been a great day for me as a daddy.
It was a really good day for me as a pastor as well. I know that it’s summer and we’re sure to have more Sundays where hundreds of people will be out traveling and vacationing, but this morning we had a really good attendance in both Bible Fellowship and Worship, four more joined the Temple family and there was a better spirit in the worship services than I’ve felt in a couple of weeks. (I guess folks are getting some rest and not so tired on Sunday.) The worship was solid this morning and I felt that the message spoke to the fathers who were there today. It was a good day at Temple
This afternoon I have enjoyed watching the history channel, reading in my Bonhoeffer book and getting a bit of rest before and extremely busy month. The Lord is beginning to give me a fresh vision for Temple and our structure and programming for the Fall. There are some changes to my personal schedule and routine that I feel led to tweak and I’m going to start doing some things that I should have been doing for the past year. I know that’s pretty vague, but it’s still a bit fuzzy in my mind and heart too. I just know that there are some great, big changes coming and I’m excited to see what these changes accomplish at Temple and in my life personally.
Dr. Rogers always told us, “Where there is life there is growth. Where there is growth there are problems. Where there are problems there are solutions. And where there are solutions there is the opportunity for more growth.”
I’m looking forward to seeing what the Lord has. It’s going to be great.
(Speaking of Dr. Rogers, I had the opportunity on Tuesday night at the Convention to have dinner with Dr. James Merritt and his wife as well as Steve Rogers (Adrian’s son). It was a great time that I will never forget. I caught myself looking at Steve and thinking how much like Dr. Rogers he looks. I miss Doc and am so thankful for the impact that he had on the world for Jesus and my life in particular. There will never be another one like him.)
I’m looking forward to a great week and some exciting meetings with some great guys.
It’s going to be a great summer. Don’t miss what the Lord wants to do in you and through during these months.
Have a great week.
HIS.
Pastor Brad
