I am pleasantly surprised and personally pleased with TBC’s worship attendance today.  In talking to other pastors across the southeast this afternoon and evening, many churches were flat or even down in their attendance on this weekend after Easter.  To be honest, that is what I had expected at Temple today.  Last Sunday was such a good day with such an awesome attendance that I figured that we would experience a lag or a drop in attendance today.  Thankfully that was not the case. The Lord granted us a tremendous day with nearly five hundred in worship.  Now, I’m told often that I should be content, but there is still part of me that starts adding up who wasn’t there – sick, traveling, serving, sleeping in, or something else – and plays the “we could have had well over five hundred in worship today” game.  Tonight however, I am thankful for a very good day.  There was good movement during first hour’s invitation and a sweet and receptive spirit in all morning and evening services.

Our Discovery Lunch went great!  It was encouraging to see both those who have joined and those who are looking at joining TBC fellowshipping and finding out more about  how to plug in at Temple.  I always enjoy these luncheons and I really believe that this first step in our New Members’ Process is vital in our effort to helping those that the Lord leads to our doors become a committed and contributing part of the ministry at Temple.  Thanks to all of the folks who helped set up and provide such a wonderful lunch.  I heard a lot of comments on how good the food was and how thankful they were that we provided this opportunity for new folks to become assimilated into the TBC family.

I want to end this evening’s review by thanking all of you TBC member’s for making our guests feel so welcome.  I talked to a couple of our many guests from this morning on the phone this afternoon, and in my conversations I repeatedly heard how they felt at home and welcome the moment they walked through the door.  Thanks and keep up the good work.

I’m looking forward to a great week.  I get to do a little bit of traveling this week visiting with pastors and seeing what I can learn from churches that are making a difference and pastors that are gifted preachers.  I’m excited about this “iron sharpening iron” time and am praying that the Lord uses this time to help me be a better pastor and preacher.

Don’t miss next Sunday as I conclude this morning’s message. This morning’s message dealt more with the abuse of the tongue, next week I’ll deal with the correct and constructive use of the tongue.  Don’t forget the power of the words that come out of your mouth this week.  Use them to speak life, not death, into your life or those that you love.

It’s going to be a great week.  Take the time and look for every opportunity to tell somebody about Jesus.
