24 May Review, Reflect, Relax (Sunday, May 23, 2010)
What a great day at Temple! I was just telling a close pastor friend how pleased I was with the attendance and spirit on what is really the last Sunday morning before all of the summer craziness commences. For all of those who were there this morning – thank you! I really was a great time together and I pray that the services blessed you as much as you blessed me.
This morning I had the opportunity to preach a message on purity from Proverbs chapter 5. I realize that this was a very straight and strong word, but I also believe that it is something that really can’t be stressed too much with our young people today. We are living in a day and age in which our y0ung people are being told so many lies and sold so many bad (and really destructive) ideas that I believe it is vitally important for pastors and parents alike to be brutally honest and scripturally accurate when dealing with the subject of sex. As Solomon said, “He shall die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.” (Prov. 5:23) Let me stress again to our parents – you can’t not afford not to talk with your kids and teach them a biblical view of this very important aspect of their lives. If you don’t, the world, and the devil will.
I want to thank everybody who commented on the wedding cake illustration for your encouragement. I really believe that this is a powerful illustration of the importance of sexual purity. I believe that this picture is especially powerful for our young ladies. There is something about seeing that wedding cake and all of the emotions and dreams that it brings up, and then to see the effects of giving part and pieces of that very special gift before your wedding night and having nothing but crumbs left – well, it leaves a lasting impression.
The Silent Praise special this morning was a real blessing to me today. “All Rise” is one of my all time favorite songs. I can remember many times as I was growing up in Milan, TN when Babbie Mason would come and sing and this morning all of those memories can flooding back into my mind. What a wonderful time of worship. Thank you again for leading us to the Throne this morning.
Tonight’s Graduate Recognition Banquet and Service was a true highlight for me. Pastor Mike along with the Student and Ladies’ Ministry are to be commended for such a special time. The meal was fantastic and the service is one that I’m sure our students and their families will never forget. The challenge that Pastor Mike shared during tonight’s message was spot on and I pray that our students will take it to heart. Way to go, Pastor Mike!
Well, it’s been a long day, and even longer week. I’m looking forward to some down time tonight and some great time preparing for next week’s message. Next Sunday will be a “Seersucker Sunday” at Temple and I know that all of you are going to want to make sure you do everything possible to be a part of that.
Have a great week in Jesus and I pray the Lord’s best upon you tonight.
HIS.
Pastor Brad
