Review, Reflect, Relax (Sunday, May 2, 2010)

Just walked in the door of the Whitt house and I can honestly say that we’re all glad to be home.  We had a great weekend getaway to Atlanta, but there’s something about sitting on your own couch, eating your own food and sleeping in your own that just can’t be replaced by no couch, take-out food and a lumpy, stinky hotel bed.  “But I digress.”

Early Friday morning we headed out with the Explorer loaded down and a nowhere to get to fast.  We took our time getting to our hotel near Stone Mountain and spent the rest of the day doing a bit of shopping and looking around town.  Saturday we got up early and spent the day at Stone Mountain.  It was a great day of relaxing and spending time together. We road the Skylift and the train.  We let the kids do pretty much whatever they wanted to – the kiddie ropes course, the great barn and of course, eating some candy.  Everybody loved spending time on top of the mountain.  LK said it looked like the beach.  We ended the day on a blanket watching the laser and fireworks display.  The fireworks scared Laura Kate, but Jack seemed to love it all.  It was a late night, but a great day together.

We got up this morning and drove to my good friend and mentor, Dr. James Merritt’s church. (Crosspointe Church, The Church at Gwinnett Center)  I was able to do a little bit of a “secret shopping” for him, and really enjoyed getting to view church from the point of view of a first time guest with two small kids.  We really enjoyed our time worshiping together with the Crosspointe family.  It is an amazing facility, with wonderful people.  The worship was dynamic and the preaching was, well, Dr. Merritt was preaching – nothing else to say.

After church, we ate lunch with Dr. Merritt and his wonderful wife, Teresa.  Eating lunch with him is a lot like spending the night at his house – standing near a tornado.  It was great, and Jack fell asleep in Mrs. Merritt’s arms.  He was a happy boy.

We headed out, after a stop at a carousel, and made our way easily back home.

All reports are that everything went well at Temple today.  As the chairman of deacons obeserved, “We’re strong enough now that you (that’s me) can take a vacation, even on what should be a down Sunday, and things go really well.”  I think that’s a compliment.  (Smile here.)

I’m thankful for the time away, the time with family and the time to be ministered to by my friend and mentor.  I actually took notes and paid attention during the service.  For somebody with ADHD like me, that’s a real accomplishment.

I hope your weekend went as well and, like me, you’re looking forward to another week serving others and loving God.

Have a great night.

Pastor Brad
