Fridays Are For Family – 12 Rules For Happy Homes

I remember seeing a poster years ago explaining the stereotypical differences between men and women that was presented in what really was a sarcastic, smart aleck and rather demeaning manner. I’m sure you’ve probably seen a version of “The Rules” at some time or another. While there is some tongue-in-cheek humor to be found in the “The Rules,” it certainly won’t help you to have a happy home.

One of the unfortunate things that I observe almost on a weekly basis is how unhappy many homes are today. You can tell that happiness has left the building by the looks on people’s faces, the tone of their voice when they speak to or about each other, and the despair in their eyes when it’s time to go home.

God never intended that the home be hell on earth. He created the family and the home so that together we could have and be more – including our happiness – than we could ever be apart. In fact, as you study the Bible there are a whole list of “one anothers” that are given so that you can have, among other things, the heavenly, happy home you’ve always dreamed of.

Here are 12 Rules for Happy Homes

1. Be honest – it is always the best policy.
2. Count your blessings (and “name them one by one” as the old song says.)
3. Bear one anothers’ burdens.
4. Forgive and forget.
5. Be kind and tenderhearted to one another.
6. Comfort one another.
7. If you make a promise, keep it – no matter what.
8. Support one another.
9. Be true to one another.
10. Look after one another.
11. Treat one another better than you treat your friends.
12. Most importantly, love one another deeply and from your heart.

A song of Ascents. Blessed is every one who fears the LORD, Who walks in His ways. 2 When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. 3 Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine In the very heart of your house, Your children like olive plants All around your table. 4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the LORD. 5 The LORD bless you out of Zion, And may you see the good of Jerusalem All the days of your life. 6 Yes, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!” Psalm 128
