Fridays Are For Family – “Five Musts For Every Family”

At the Whitt house, since most of our time on the weekend is spent serving and ministering in the church or preparing for the coming Sunday’s services and meetings, we reserve Friday as our “Family Day.”  Now, while I realize that our family’s schedule may not be your family’s schedule, I want to provide some simple, encouraging and equipping advice in what I’m going to call my “Fridays Are For Family” posts.  These posts most likely won’t be original with me.  My plan is to pull together, cull through and provide some very helpful bits of information, lists, thoughts and such from respected Christian writers and speakers who specialize in issues related to our families.

This week I want to start by sharing “Five Musts For Every Family” from Gary Chapman’s “Five Sign’s Of A Functional Family.” I pray that it starts your mind to thinking and can be used as a conversation starter during your family’s devotional time.

Five Musts For Every Family

1.  An Attitude of Service: When family members help each other they whole family benefits.

2. Intimacy Between a Husband and Wife: When a couple connects, it satisfies their inner longings and give the children a loving model of what family is all about.

3.  Parents Who Teach and Train: Guiding your children is a team effort.

4.  Husbands Who are Loving Leaders: A man needs to lead his wife and children in a loving way and live his spiritual and moral values. It inspires his family to do the same.

5. Children Who Obey and Honor Their Parents: Kids need to learn that living by rules is good for them and everyone around them.

“Blessed is every one who fears the LORD, Who walks in His ways. 2  When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. 3  Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine In the very heart of your house, Your children like olive plants All around your table. 4  Behold, thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the LORD.5  The LORD bless you out of Zion, And may you see the good of Jerusalem All the days of your life.” 6  Yes, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!”  Psalm 128
