28 Aug 2014 Fall Blog Schedule
Tonight, as I sit in one of my favorite places (Ridgecrest Conference Center), I must admit that I have somewhat of an internal conflict. On one hand, I’m sad that summer has obviously come to an end. On the other hand, I’m excited to begin writing next week on a regular basis. (I’ve been thinking, planning and anxiously awaiting this day all summer.)
You see, I have been on somewhat of a self-imposed sabbatical from blogging during the summer to allow me more time to focus on family and ministry. Now that school has started back, and everything is revving up at the church for the fall I plan on resuming my blogging and posting schedule. I’m excited about this, and wanted to share with you some of the “what” and more of the “why” of my upcoming posts.
Weekly Posting Schedule
Monday – On Mondays I will focus on ministry in general and local, pastoral ministry in particular. Raised as a pastor’s son and serving as a local church pastor for nearly twenty years I have good amount of experience and a not a few opinions that I wish to share. My plan is to share practical, applicable thoughts on everything from how and why a pastor should give a public invitation to revival planning and preparation to avoiding blowouts or burnout in ministry. I pray that this will be a help to pastors and an encouragement to lay people serving alongside their pastor in the local church.
Tuesday – One of the most important (I would argue that this is the most important) aspects of any local, pastoral ministry is that of preaching. So, on Tuesdays I will post the sermons that were preached in the Abilene pulpit the previous Sunday. Feel free to listen, share or use anything you find helpful here.
Wednesday – I have a great love for devotional reading. In fact, much of my personal reading time is often divided between biographical and devotional reading. I especially have an affinity for writers such as Boreham, Foster and Meyer. I write devotionally mainly for my spiritual development and will share it here with the hope that it will encourage you in your personal walk with the Lord.
Thursday – At this point in the week my mind and heart are definitely turned toward Sunday. I will normally post a short video sharing a little bit about Wednesday evening’s lesson from the Pastor’s Bible Study but will focus on information that I think will be most helpful in your preparation for the coming Sunday at Abilene.
Friday – I’m called to be a pastor, but my first calling is that of husband and father. Friday’s posts will focus on any number of aspects and situations that we face as families – especially those families that are actively involved in local church ministry.
There you have it. This is my plan for posting and writing for the remainder of the year. I look forward to sharing with you what the Lord is doing in my life, my family’s life and the life of the church I’m called to pastor. Check back next Monday as we pick back up on our journey together.
