As I sit here at my house tonight I can remember not so very long ago when Mother’s Day wasn’t a happy day at the Whitt house. We had prayed and tried for so many years to have a baby that each Mother’s Day was another reminder that we were a childless couple. Even now, with two wonderful children, there is still the ache of heart that we remember personally and feel for those who have yet to be blessed with a child. To all of those sweet couples tonight, our hearts and prayers go out to you.
Today really was a great day at Temple. Yes, in spite of the “technical difficulties,” I believe that today was a very special Mother’s Day at TBC, if for no other reason, than the fact that we had two wonderful people come forward in the second service to make a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Mother’s Day is a family day, and what better way could it be celebrated than by seeing two people “birthed” into the family of God. I’ll take “technical difficulties” every week if we can see that happen.
After the morning services we did what every hard working pastor’s family does on Sunday afternoon – we took a nap. (Dr. John Floyd used to tell us at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary that “sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take a nap.”) Well, then, today we were super spiritual.
We ended the day by going out with one of the couples from church for a Mother’s Day dinner, but when we got to the restaurant we discovered that evidently everybody else two counties had the same idea and the same place in mind. (The wait for a table was “at least an hour and a half.”) We decided to go elsewhere, and then after dinner we took all of the kids out for ice cream. What a great way to end the day – spending time with family and friends on a beautiful South Carolina Spring evening. I am truly blessed.
I’m looking forward to a great week of serving Jesus and ministering to families. Tomorrow I’ll get to fellowship with pastors from all across Greenville county and I’ve got to admit that I’m really looking forward to it.
Have a great night and a wonderful week.
